An informal meeting of those interested in Masonry in Lyon County, Kansas was held January 15, 1858, and L. H. D. Bailey was elected the first master of Emporia Lodge No. 12, AF & AM with the first regular meeting held July 24, 1858 under the charter granted that year.

Emporia Lodge became inactive as a result of the Civil War and a new charter was issued on December 21, 1864, with the following charter members: B. J. Purcell, C. V. Eskridge, H. W. Fick, E. Boron, and T. E. Hicks.  Since that time Emporia Lodge claims two Grand Masters - M:. W:. J. Jay Buck (1884) and M:.W:. Ferris M. Hill (1928) - and a host of committed, enthusiastic Masons from all walks of life.

Emporia Lodge #12 continues to make history to this day. As we approach our 150th Anniversary, we remain sound, strong, and committed to charity and community service in and around Emporia and the State of Kansas.
